Gospel of the day (Jn 20, 19-31): the evening of that day, the first of the week, Jews were locked for fear, the doors being shut where the disciples were, Jesus came and stood among them and he said, "peace be with you". Having said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples rejoiced to see the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. " Having said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins, they are forgiven; those who retain, they are retained. "
Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord". But he answered them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the hole of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Eight days later, his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among the doors being shut, and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands; bring your hand and put it into my side; do not be faithless, but believing. " Thomas replied, "My Lord and my God." Jesus said: "Because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. "
Jesus performed in the presence of the disciples many other signs that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.
