Reading from the Gospel, Wednesday Feb. 24 (click here)

Wednesday, February 24
Daily Gospel (Mt 20, 17-28): At that time, when Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, took the Twelve aside and told them on the way: "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed the chief priests and scribes; They will condemn him to death and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and the third day rise again. "

Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, and knelt to ask you something. He said, "What do you want?". She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your kingdom." Jesus replied: "You know not what you ask. Can you drink the cup that I drink? ". They say to him: "Yes, we can." He said to them, "My cup will drink; but to sit at my right or my left is not mine to give but is for whom it is prepared by my Father. "

On hearing this, the other ten were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles dominate them as absolute lords, and their great ones are tyrants over them. It must not be so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man has come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
