Daily reading of the Holy Gospel Saturday January 2 (click here)

  Saturday, January 2
Daily Gospel (Jn 1, 19-28): This was the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem where he was priests and Levites to ask him, "Who are you?". He confessed, and denied not; He confessed: "I am not the Christ." And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah? ". He said: "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?". He replied: "No". Then they said, "Who are you, then, to give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?". He said: "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said."

The envoys were Pharisees. And they asked him: "Why, then, baptize if you are not the Christ nor Elijah nor the Prophet?". John answered, "I baptize with water, but among you stands one whom you do not know who is coming after me, who I am not worthy to untie his sandal." This happened in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
