Reading the Holy Gospel, Sunday, 28 August (click here)

Sunday, 28 August
Daily Gospel (Lk 14, 1,7-14): One Saturday, having gone to one of the leading Pharisees to eat, they were watching him. Noticing how the guests picked the places, he told them a parable: "When you're invited by someone to a wedding, do not get in the first place, lest he has been invited someone more distinguished than you for him, and he that it will invited you and him, you say, 'Give place to this,' and then go ashamed to occupy last place. On the contrary, when you are invited, go and sit in last place, so that when your host comes he invited you, you say, 'Friend, go up higher'. And this will be an honor for you before all who are with you at the table. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. "

He also said that he had invited him, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives, or your rich neighbors; lest they invite you turn, and you be repaid. When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; and you will be blessed, because they can not repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. "
