Reading the Holy Gospel, Tuesday March 8 (click here)

 Tuesday, March 8
Gospel of the day (Jn 5, 1-3.5-16): It was the holiday of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. There is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool called in Hebrew Bethsaida, having five porches. In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. There was a man wearing ill thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been a long time, he says: "Do you want to get well?". The invalid replied, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am coming, another steps down before me. " Jesus says, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." And immediately the man was healed, he took his mat and began to walk.

But that day was Saturday. So the Jews said to him who was cured, "It's Saturday and you are not allowed to carry the stretcher." He replied: "He who cured me told me, 'Take up your bed and walk.'" They asked, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take it and walk?'". But the healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had disappeared because there were many people in that place. Later Jesus found him in the temple and says, "Look, you're cured; sin no more, lest something worse happen to you. " The man went and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. So the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the Sabbath.
