Reading from the Gospel, Monday, February 1 (click here)

  Monday, February 1
Daily Gospel (Mk 5: 1-20): At that time, Jesus and his disciples came across the sea, the region of the Gerasenes. Just he jumped out of the boat, came to meet, among the tombs a man with an unclean spirit dwelling in the tombs and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because many times he had been bound with shackles and chains, but he had broken the chains and broken the fetters, and no one could dominate. And always, night and day among the tombs and the hills, screaming and cutting himself with stones. Upon seeing Jesus afar off, he ran and fell down before Him and cried with a loud voice, "What I have with you, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I charge you by God, do not torment me. " Is that He had said to him, "Unclean spirit, come out of this man." And he asked: "What is your name?". Replied: "My name is Legion, for we are many." And he besought him that he would not send them away out of the region.

There was a large herd of pigs feeding at the foot of the mountain; and they begged him, "Send us into the swine, that we may enter them." And let him. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine, and the herd-about two mil- jumped into the sea from the top of the cliff and were drowning in the sea. The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country; and people came to see what it was that had happened. They come to Jesus and see the demoniac, who had the legion, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, and they were terrified. Those who saw it told them what had happened to the demoniac and the swine. Then they began to beg him to stay away from completion.

. And to get into the boat, who had been demon-possessed asked to be with him but it was not granted, but said, "Go home, where friends and tell them what the Lord has done for you and He has had mercy on you. " He went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.
