Daily reading of the Holy Gospel, Friday, January 8 (click here)

  Friday, January 8
Daily Gospel (Mk 6, 34-44): At that time Jesus saw a large crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. And it was very late, his disciples came to Him and said, "This place is deserted and the time is now past; send them away so they can go to the farms and villages of the region to buy food. " And He answered and said, "Give them something to eat." And they said, "Are we going to buy two hundred pennyworth of bread to feed them?". He replied, "How many loaves have you? Go and see. " And having seen it, say, "Five, and two fish."

Then he commanded them all sit down by groups on the green grass diners. And they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. And taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to distribuyesen; also he broke the two fishes for all. They all ate until they were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of leftover pieces of bread and fish. Those who ate were about five thousand men.
