Reading the daily Gospel, Wednesday December 23 (click here)

  Wednesday, December 23
Daily Gospel (Luke 1, 57-66): He turned to Isabel the time of giving birth, and had a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy, and they rejoiced with her. It happened on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to name it after his father Zechariah, but his mother, speaking, said, "No; he shall be called John. " We said, "No one in your family has that name." And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, "His name is John." And all were amazed. And immediately he opened his mouth and his tongue, and he spoke blessing God. He invaded the fear of all its neighbors, and throughout the hill country of Judea all these things were talked about; All who heard of it treasured it in their hearts, saying, "Well, what this child be?". Because, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.
