Reading the daily Gospel, Friday December 25 (click here)
Friday, December 25
Daily Gospel (Lk 2, 1-14): It happened in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This first census took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. They all went to be enrolled, each to his city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. It happened while they were there, the days of her birth, and she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place in the housing.
It was in the same region shepherds, sleeping in the open and keeping watch over their flock by night. They were an angel of the Lord and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were afraid. The angel said, "Fear not, I bring you news of great joy which will come to all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord; and this will be a sign: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. " And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
