Daily Gospel (Mt 1: 18-24): The generation of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came to live together, was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put in evidence, resolved to divorce her quietly.
They had planned, when the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, fear not to take Mary your wife, because what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. " All this happened so that the Lord had spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted means" God with us. '" When Joseph woke from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.
