Reading from the Gospel, Wednesday, October 21 (click here)

  Wednesday, October 21
Gospel (Lk 12, 39-48): At that time, Jesus told his disciples: "But know this: if the homeowner had known what hour the thief was coming, he would not let his house be broken. You also be ready, because the moment you do not expect, the Son of man cometh. "

Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?". The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds him doing so. Truly I tell you, he will set him over all his hacienda. But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk, come the lord of that servant day and waits when he does not know, he will separate and appoint his portion with the unbelievers.

"That servant who knew his master's will, did not make ready or act according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; who does not know and does things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few; to whom much is given, much will be required; and to whom men commit much more you will be asked. "
