Reading from the Gospel, Sunday, 18 October (click here)

  Sunday, 18 October
Gospel (Mk 10, 35-45): At that time, James and John, sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, we, grant us whatever we ask of you." He said, "What do you want to do for you?". They answered him, "Grant that in your glory we may sit, one at your right and one at your left." Jesus said, "You know not what you ask. Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized? ". They said, "Yes, we can." Jesus said, "The cup that I drink, if you drink and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized; but to sit at my right or left is not mine to give but is for whom it is prepared. "

When the ten heard this, they began to be indignant at James and John. Jesus, calling them, tells them: "You know that those who are regarded as leaders of nations, dominate as absolute lords and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it must not be so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all, For the Son of Man came to be served but to serve and give his life a ransom for many. "
