Reading from the Gospel, Saturday, 22 August (click here)

Liturgical day: Saturday August 22
Gospel (Mt 23, 1-12): In that time Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, "In the chair of Moses the scribes and the Pharisees sit. Bring forth therefore do and observe what they tell you; but do not imitate their behavior, they say and do. They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on people's shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them. All their works they do for to be seen of men; done well phylacteries broad and their fringes long mantle; They want first place at feasts and the chief seats in the synagogues and to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have people call them 'Rabbi. "

"You, however, not to be called" Rabbi, "for one is your Master; and you are all brothers. And call no man "Father" in your earth, for one is your Father in heaven. Nor do you allow yourselves to be called "guides" for one is your guide, the Christ. The greatest among you shall be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. "

Your brother in Christ, Father Santiago
