Gospel Reading Saturday August 1 (click here)

Liturgical day: Saturday August 1
Gospel (Mt 14, 1-12): At that time Herod the Tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus, and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers work in him. "

For Herod had arrested John, he bound him and put him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. For John said: "It is not lawful to have it." And although he wanted to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

But Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst and pleased Herod that he promised under oath to give her whatever she asked. She, prompted by her mother, "Give me here the head of John the Baptist said in a tray." The king was grieved, but because of his oaths and the guests, ordered it to be given, and he sent and beheaded John in prison. His head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. Arriving after his disciples took the body and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.

Your brother in Christ, Father Santiago
