Reading from the Gospel, Wednesday June 24 (click here)

Liturgical Day: Wednesday June 24, Nativity of John the Baptist
Gospel (Luke 1, 57-66.80): You will be met at the time Elisabeth to give birth, and had a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy, and they rejoiced with her. It happened on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother, speaking, said, "No; he shall be called John. " He said, "No one in your family has that name." And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, 'His name is John.' And all were amazed.

And immediately he opened his mouth and his tongue, and he spoke blessing God. He invaded the fear of all its neighbors, and throughout the hill country of Judea all these things were talked about; All who heard of it treasured it in their hearts, saying, "What then will this child be?". For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit; He lived in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
