Reading from the Gospel, Wednesday February 18 (click here)

Liturgical Day: Wednesday February 18 (Ash Wednesday)
Gospel (Mt 6, 1-6.16-18): At that time Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise ye have no reward of your Father in heaven. So when you give alms, do not trumpeted before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be honored by men; truly I tell you, they receive their pay. You, however, when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what thy right hand doeth so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites who love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners firmly planted places to be seen of men; truly I tell you, they receive their pay. You, however, when you pray, go into your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father who is there in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to men they are fasting; truly I tell you, they receive their pay. You, however, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting to be seen, not by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "

Your brother in Christ, Father Santiago
