Reading from the Gospel, Friday February 6 (click here)

Liturgical Day: Friday February 6
Gospel (Mk 6, 14-29): At that time, had become known the name of Jesus and it came to news of King Herod. Some said, "John the Baptist has risen from the dead and why miraculous powers are at work in him." Others said, "He is Elijah"; other: "It is a prophet like the other prophets." Upon hearing Herod said, "That John, whom I beheaded, that is risen". Is Herod himself had sent John arrested and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married. For John said to Herod, "You are not allowed to have your brother's wife." Herodias hated him and wanted to kill him, but could not, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was righteous and holy man, and protected him; and hearing him were much perplexed, and heard him gladly.

And a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers, the tribunes and chief men of Galilee. And when the daughter of the same Herodias danced, and pleased Herod and his guests. The king then said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want and I'll give '. And he swore: "I'll give you what you ask, even half my kingdom." He left the girl and asked her mother, "What am I going to ask?". And she said, "The head of John the Baptist." Entering at once rushed to the king, asked: "I want you to give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist." The king was deeply distressed, but not refuse her because of his oaths and the guests. And immediately the king sent one of his guard with orders to bring John's head. He went and beheaded him in the prison and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. When his disciples heard, they came and took his body and buried him.
