Gospel Reading Today, Oct. 12

Liturgical Day: Sunday, October 12
Gospel (Mt 22, 1-14): At that time Jesus again spoke to them in parables, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a feast for his son's wedding. He sent his servants to call those invited to the wedding, but they would not come. Next he sent other servants, with this request: 'Tell those invited:' Look, my banquet is ready, you have killed my oxen and fattened cattle, and everything is ready; Come to the wedding. '

"But they made light of it and went, one to his farm, another to his business; while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

"Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the main roads and those you meet, invite them to the wedding. 'The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

"When the king came to see the guests, he noticed that there was a man who had no wedding garment, he says, 'Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?'. He was silent. Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 'For many are called, but few chosen. "
