Gospel Reading Today, September 20

Liturgical Day: Saturday September 20
Gospel (Luke 8, 4-15): At that time, many people having gathered, and coming to Him from every city, said in parable: "He went out a sower to sow his seed; And as he sowed, some fell along the path, been trampled, and the birds of the air ate it; fell on another stone, and after sprouting, dried, for no moisture; other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and brought forth fruit a hundredfold growing. "That said, exclaimed, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

His disciples asked him what this parable, and He said, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God; others only in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes the word of his heart, lest they should believe and be saved. They on rock are those who, hearing the word, receive it with joy; and these have no root; They believe for a while, but when the test desist. What fell among thorns are those who have heard, but along their journey and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of life, and do not reach maturity. What falls into the good ground are those who, having heard the word retain an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with perseverance. "
