Gospel Reading Today, August 17

Liturgical Day: Sunday, August 17
Gospel (Mt 15, 21-28): At that time Jesus went out and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And a Canaanite woman from one of those places, he began to shout, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David. My daughter is tormented by a demon. "He said nothing. Then the disciples came to him to say, "Send her away, screaming coming from behind." He replied, "I have sent only to the lost sheep of Israel." She met and fell down before Him, and asked him to his knees, "Lord, help me." He replied, "It is not right to take the dogs children's bread." But she replied: "You are right, sir; even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. "Jesus answered, "Woman, great is your faith that meets what you want." At that moment her daughter was healed.
