Today's Gospel reading

Liturgical Day: December 9, Monday
Gospel (Lk 5, 17-26): One day Jesus was teaching, there were Pharisees and doctors sitting of the law who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea, and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord made him to heal. In this, men brought in a bed a paralyzed man and tried to introduce , to put before him but not finding where to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up to the roof, let him down with his bed through the tiles, and put into the midst before Jesus. Seeing their faith Jesus said, "Man, your sins are forgiven."

The scribes and Pharisees began to think, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?'. And Jesus knowing their thoughts, said, "What are you thinking in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralytic, ' I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.' "And immediately he rose up before them, took up that whereon he lay, and went home, glorifying God. The astonishment seized them all, and they glorified God. And filled with fear, saying, "We have seen incredible things."
