Liturgical Day: December 25, The Nativity of Our Lord, Wednesdays
Gospel ( Lk 2, 1-14): It happened in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This census first took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each to his city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. It happened, while they were there, he was the days of birth, and gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place in the housing.
There was in the same area some shepherds, who slept in the open and keeping watch over their flock by night. They were an angel of the Lord and the glory of the Lord shone around them , and they were terrified. The angel said, "Fear not, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord, and this shall be a sign: find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. "And suddenly he was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
