Gospel (Mt 1: 18-24): the generation of Christ was thus: His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came to live together she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
But as he considered, when the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, fear not to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. "All this happened so that the Lord had spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted means," God with us. '"José awakened from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.
